Hand-carved with your design in the material you choose: a 1.5, 1.8 or 3 cm square face, a hand-carved side inscription, and a carved beast knob or a plain top.

Gift box

A linen-covered box with a brocade-lined lid and a satin tray. Inside the lid is a card with a test impression of your seal.

Seal paste

A porcelain pot of cinnabar-red seal paste, so you can use your seal as soon as it arrives.

Illustrations based on our sample set. Natural stone varies, so no two seals look exactly alike.

Carved entirely by hand by a heritage master

Your stone seal is cut stroke by stroke with a carving knife, face and side inscription alike, by a master seal carver who is a recognised inheritor of China’s intangible cultural heritage of seal carving. Chinese seal engraving has been on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009.

Material

Xiaoshan red stone, from Hangzhou, is a deep purplish-red stone that carves well and is the most affordable choice. Shoushan, Qingtian, Changhua and Balin are the four famous Chinese seal stones. Xiaoshan, Shoushan, Qingtian and Balin have set prices by size; Changhua, jade, gold and any other material depend on the piece — we quote it with your proof, and you decide before paying anything.Four famous seal stones →

Carving style

Baiwen carves the characters into the stone, so they print white on red; zhuwen carves away the background, so they print red on white. Your proof shows the style before anything is carved.Yin vs yang seals →

Size

Smaller faces hold fewer characters, so sizes too small for your seal are greyed out. The hidden QR code needs the 3 × 3 cm face.

Knob (carved top)

Custom sizes and custom knobs are quoted with your proof.

With the QR code, the face is laser-engraved for precision and finished by hand; the side inscription is still carved by hand.

Questions

Will the QR code scan from a stamped print?

A stamped print is harder to scan than a screen. We test-stamp every QR seal before it ships; if yours doesn’t scan reliably, we’ll tell you and offer the version without the QR code.

Can I change the design?

Yes. We email you a proof before carving starts and won’t carve until you approve it.

Can I return it?

Each seal is made just for you, so we can’t take returns — but if it arrives damaged or carved incorrectly, we’ll re-carve it free.

Is it a legal signature?

No. It’s a keepsake and a way to express yourself — not a legal signature or a company seal.
